Opel -  Motorbicycles

 

Opel celebratedtheir milestone 50 th year in business in 1912. In that year, Opel released a motorised push bike trageted to a major section of population. In brochures printed in 1912, Opel displayed the "Opel-Hilfsmotorrad", sometimes called "Opel Motorfahrrad"

 

 

 

 

 

Opel - commences production of sewing machines

 

Adam Opel is the foundation member of the now famous Opel Motorcar. In 1862, Adam commences his business of manufacturing sewing machines in a factory in Russelsheim (Germany). He is so succesful that within 2 years he employs 100 workers.

 

 

 

 

Opel - Adam Opel dies

 

On the 8 th September 1895, Adam Opel passes away from an illness after completing a business trip in Belgium and Holland. His wife and his two eldest of the five sons continue with the business. The production of push bikes reaches the 16.000 mark in 1898.

 

 

 

 

 

Opel - motorbikes

 

In 1901 Opel decides to build motorbikes. Many one and two cilinder models are developed and brought out. Mid 1920's sees the motorbike factory being shifted to the province of  Sachsen. In 1930, Opel ceases production of the motorbikes.

 

 

 

 

Opel - Major fire

 

In 1911, a major fire occurred resulting in the destruction of a large number of workshops. There is insufficient room for the rebuilding of more modern factories and the decision is made to cease production of sewing machines, after reaching the one million mark since 1862

 

 

 

 

 

           Opel - Around 1930 - The end of the 2 wheeler era

 

 

       A pity .. Much Major Business has been accomplished

 

   

Opel- Airplane engines

 

With the aim to maintain the company, Opel also manufactured 4 cylinder engines for aircraft in the period leading up to the world war 1. The engines had a capacity of 60/70 HP and were water cooled. Currently, very little is known about these engines

 

Opel - Push Bikes

 

In 1886, the first Opel push bike leaves the factory. With this bike, Opel is the first producer of push bikes in Germany. In 1889 Opel employs 1000 workers and August Lehr becomes World Champion in London on an Opel push bike.

Opel- Automobiles

 

As a result of the much increased production of push bikes by competitors, in 1899 Opel commences production of motorcars. Carl Benz has been producing cars for 10 years already. Opel has commenced their succes story.
